Working together for a healthier, happier Knowsley
There has been a Health and Wellbeing Partnership Board in Knowsley since 2004. The Board has successfully driven improvements for local people.
Since April 2013, the Health and Wellbeing Board has been a statutory committee of the local authority.
Our Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy (2020-2025) shows how we intend to continue to make further improvements for local people, and we’ve also made a video to explain the principles and aims of the Board.
The big issues in Knowsley
The big health and wellbeing issues in Knowsley are based upon the findings of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), which identified a number of priority areas (see page 21 of our strategy).
The priorities of the Board are:
- Reducing health inequalities
- Mental health, wellbeing and social isolation.

What do we want to achieve?
Our aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of everybody that lives, works or is registered with a GP in Knowsley.
We will do this by taking a ‘wider determinants’ approach to health and wellbeing which includes working with other partners in areas such as the early years, education, housing, community safety and many more. The Board is also working towards achieving the objectives set out in the overarching Knowsley 2030 strategy.
What will success look like?
Over the next five years the Board will be working closely with local people, partners and other stakeholders to deliver the Board’s priorities.
Our intended outcomes are set out in the strategy on pages 23 and 25. Hand in hand with this, the Board will continue to work across the health and wellbeing system to deliver the Knowsley 2030 objectives.
Annual monitoring will keep us on track and help to identify what else we need to do to make it happen throughout the five year period.

How will we get there?
The only way to create real change is to work collaboratively with members of Board as well as external stakeholders.
The Board already has a strong network of partnerships but these will be further strengthened and widened.
The Board will provide strong leadership and help to empower others.
The Board will raise awareness of key issues, in particular how health and wellbeing can be improved through the wider determinants.
