Working together for a healthier, happier Knowsley
There has been a Health and Wellbeing Partnership Board in Knowsley since 2004. The Board has successfully driven improvements for local people.
Since April 2013, the Health and Wellbeing Board has been a statutory committee of the local authority.
Our Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy (2016-2020) shows how we intend to continue to make further improvements for local people, and we’ve also made a video to explain the principles and aims of the Board.
The big issues in Knowsley
The big health and wellbeing issues in Knowsley are based upon the findings of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), which identified a number of priority areas (see page 14 of our strategy).
The priorities of the Board are:
- Promoting Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health
- Promoting Healthy Living

What do we want to achieve?
We are taking a ‘life course’ approach to improve health and wellbeing, which includes eight key life stages as detailed in the plan, plus one main, overarching outcome: ‘people living longer, healthy lives’. For more information, see page 23 of our strategy.
What will success look like?
Together we identified outcomes that we wanted to see improved at different stages of people’s lives.
We then discussed these widely with local people, partners and other stakeholders, to identify what success would look like and what we need to do to make it happen. These are detailed on page 19 of our strategy.

How will we get there?
We have identified a way of working needed to help improve people’s health and wellbeing.
These include working together to improve health and wellbeing, strong leadership, empowering people, service improvement and a focus on prevention and protection.
